Body percussion is a great way to introduce children to music. It’s particularly relevant for schools that don’t have access to many musical resources!
We’re pretty sure you’ve heard of body percussion before but – before we jump into the deep end and throw our favourite body percussion instruction videos your way – let’s go over the basics.
What is body percussion?
Body Percussion is the art of using your body to create percussive sounds. Effectively, your body becomes a musical instrument! It’s the perfect activity for warming up, learning about rhythm, and creating music, as a group. Body percussion uses the concept of Beat, Rhythm and Tempo. It offers new, and experienced pupils a great way explore these skills in a practical and accessible way.
Why is body percussion important?
It is the perfect solution for schools that want to incorporate more music in their lesson planning.
While you may have a music room full of instruments, it can be beneficial to strip back to the basics and provide your pupils with musical skills they can practice outside of the classroom with no resources needed. Body percussion can be an incredibly useful tool for teaching new musical skills, and as an added bonus can help harness the energy in your classroom.
