Why are Holiday Camps important?
Unless given opportunities to learn, school holidays can often do more harm than good in regard to a pupil’s educational journey. Good habits are let go, routines are broken, and active learning is neglected for passive activities. While rest is important, too much of it defeats the purpose. Don’t get us wrong, we all love a good holiday – but we believe that continuing to learn consistently throughout the year is important for building a healthy approach to learning. Why do we think this?
Without getting too complicated, let’s talk science for a second.
Newton’s first law: “An object at rest remains at rest, or if in motion, remains in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force.”
To put this into simpler terms: Once an object is moving, you don’t need a force to keep it moving. That object will carry on moving all by itself unless another force stops it. Once that object has stopped moving, it will remain that way until another force moves it.
All fine and dandy, but why are we talking about science and Newton’s first law when this is a musical education blog? What can we take away from this?
In this scenario, a child is the object and holidays are the force.
We don’t expect children to be enrolled in full-time school, as breaks are a very important part of development, both physically and mentally. We all need rest in order to grow.
What we are suggesting is that rather than stopping altogether, we only slow down the formal approach to education over holidays. This will provide pupils the break the need for growth, without stunting their curiosity and learning habits. We believe that this will allow for smoother transition back into the daily school life once the holidays are over, resulting in greater comprehension of lessons, and a better approach at the act of learning.
This is why we are so passionate about providing affordable and accessible holiday camps to our pupils throughout the greater London area.
Our Holiday Camps are packed full of fun and exciting new ways to learn about the performing arts. Our daily schedules include lessons in music, drama, dance, connecting with an audience and engaging games that are sure to have children raving about their participation! In addition to having a wealth of teaching experience in U.K primary schools, our Holiday Camp teachers are all active musicians and performers in the global music industry, making each of our camps truly a one of a kind experience.
